SRIMF 2023 Audrey Foo - Allegro: First movement from Sonata in E minor, Op. 2 No. 8 (F. M. Veracini)
It was my very first violin competition since I started the instrument at 7. It was an exciting and also nerve-wracking experience, going on the big stage with many pairs of eyes focused on me. I played my best and surprisingly managed to receive a Bronze medal! It truly an enriching experience. Memorising this piece was not a simple task. With repeated and extremely similar melody lines, I often got confused and played the wrong notes. In light of this, I imagined a robot in discombobulation as it had played the same melody twice. Hence, It dozed off and started to sleep. In the back section of the piece, the melody stretches an octave higher, acting as an alarm clock for the robot.
