I performed one of Kurt Weill’s songs, My ship from the lady in the dark for my Grade 5 classical singing examination. Kurt Weill’s My ship is a beautifully emotional song about dreams and wishes. It tells the story of someone waiting for a ship to arrive, carrying treasures and decked with gold. Later on in the song, she realises that material things aren’t what bring true happiness. The gentle melody makes the song feel heartfelt and touching, drawing you into its message.
