Project: “A New Eden”

By: Audrey Foo and Stella Sng

Titled “Before Semakau Landfill in 2035”, in support of the National Environment Agency's (NEA) “Say YES to Waste Less” campaign, participants used upcycled materials to depict their thoughts and interpretation of the waste problems we face in Singapore.

"As some of you may know, our current rate of waste disposal will cause Semakau Landfill, our only landfill, to be completely full by the year 2035."

Faced with this serious consideration; the duo comissioned "𝘼 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙀𝙙𝙚𝙣", a utopian ecosystem; a hopeful portrayal of the future, when humans decide to take climate change seriously and begin implementing a zero-waste lifestyle. The result is a renewal of flora and fauna, where nature heals and thrives amid material remnants of the past.

With this source of life, we hope that nature will eventually take over and animals can live in peace together. Inspired by the raw beauty of recyclable materials, components such as newspaper and coffee filter flowers and cardboard trees flourish, without the interference of man-made waste. New versions of plants and animals adapt, survive and flourish to see a new future.

Materials: Plastic gallon, newspapers, scrap packaging, rocks, styrofoam, acrylic and ink
Dimensions: 50cm x 30cm x 40cm
